Why Should I Come?
OBC is a friendly, welcoming group of fellow sinners. You won't be judged for the things you've done wrong, but you will be shown a better way.
Leading up to our annual Annie Armstrong Easter Offering, Southern Baptists are encouraged to spend a week in prayer for this special offering and especially for the work of missions in North America. The North American Mission Board seeks to equip and send church planters throughout North America for the purpose of planting new churches. Here in the Bible-belt, we might think, “Don’t we have enough churches?” But the opposite is true. At the time of World War I, the church to population ratio was one church for every 430 persons. Today that has fallen to one church for every 6,194 persons! In Canada, it is much worse, at one church for every 123,971 persons. What is needed is strategic, focused church planting efforts bathed by prayer and funded by God’s generous people.

We know that Easter is not about a bunny, but it is a fun way to provide an enjoyable environment for children in which they will hear a clear presentation of the Easter story. Breakfast with the Easter Bunny includes picture with the bunny, crafts and games, face-painting, an egg hunt, and of course, a yummy breakfast.
Easter is the most significant event of the year. It is the day that we celebrate the complete defeat of sin, death, and Satan through the resurrection of Christ from the dead. Christ bore in his body and his soul the punishment for our sin, and when he rose on Easter morning, God declared that the debt was paid in full!
Since that morning, Christians have gathered at sunrise on Easter morning to proclaim the Lord’s resurrection. On this most special morning, we will gather at 7am to sing of his resurrection, and hear the story from his Word. Following this is a breakfast in the Fellowship Hall. After Sunday School, we will have a special Easter worship service at 11am. We invite you to join us to celebrate this most amazing event. He is risen!
On Sunday evening, April 15th, Simeons Promise will provide a special musical worship service. Simeons Promise ministered to us in 2011, and all in attendance were blessed by their musical talents, sense of humor, and most especially, their heart for God. Refreshments will be provided after the service, and admission is free (a love gift for Simeons Promise will be collected.
Scripture teaches us to respect those who have laid the path of faith before us (Eph. 6:1-3, Lev. 19:32). At OBC, we try to do that every day, but one day a year we make a special effort to pay respect to our seniors. On this day, the seniors have a special part of our morning worship, and receive recognition from all. We invite you to join us for this special worship service.
The “Day of Encouragement” is an annual ladies’ conference that takes place each September. The event features a keynote speaker bringing messages of encouragement to women of faith. Food is provided and doorprizes are plentiful. The modest entrance fee ($6.00) is donated in it’s entirety to Alamance Pregnancy Services, a Christian organization in Burlington providing faith-based services to crisis pregnancies. The event is located at Bethlehem Christian Church and is a function of the Women’s Auxiliary Union of Ossipee Baptist.
Last year, the keynote speaker was Mrs. Mindy Williams. Mindy William is the women’s ministry coordinator at North Wake Baptist Church. Mindy shared her passion for helping women close the gap between what they say they believe about God and His Word and how they live in the details of everyday life.
A tasty meal is provided by Honey Baked Ham of Burlington and the Ossipee Baptist WMU. Pre-registration is required. You can pre-register by calling (336) 584-6878 or by emailing meredithwilkerson@hotmail.com
Our annual Trunks of Treats provides a safe, friendly environment for kids (and their parents) to enjoy themselves. Our parking lot gets lined with vehicles, all dispensing treats from their trunks. Hot coffee, pastries, and popcorn are also available for the adults.
This takes place every October 31st from 5-7pm. Come out and join us for some fun and treats.
Each year, our church collects Shoebox Gifts for third-world children. These gifts are distributed through Samaritan’s Purse’s Operation Christmas Child. The shoebox gifts should be accompanied with a check in the amount of $7.00 (written to Samaritan’s Purse) to cover the cost of shipping. This is a great way to show Christian love for those who have less than we.
Each year, Ossipee Baptist participates in an annual Community Thanksgiving Service. This is a service in which many area churches worship together, focusing on Christian thankfulness. The location and the speaker for this service rotates each year. This always proves to be a worshipful time, as well as a great opportunity for Christians to worship with brothers and sisters from nearby churches. The service always takes place the Sunday evening before the Thanksgiving holiday.
Living in the center of gospel freedom and activity, it’s easy to forget that billions of people have never heard an understandable presentation of the saving gospel of Jesus Christ. Many live in countries that are closed and hostile to the gospel, others live in areas in which the Christian witness is so distorted that the gospel is unrecognizable. What is needed are more missionaries and more funding–but especially more prayer. At OBC, we commit to pray for our missionaries and the unreached people to which they are ministering, but we come together for a special week of prayer leading up to our annual Lottie Moon Ingathering for the International Mission Board. This important week of prayer should be a model for our prayer life for the whole year.
The body of Christ is commanded to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to all nations and peoples. Sadly, millions have never heard an understandable presentation of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Without calling on the name of Jesus Christ in faith and repentance, all are lost. We must take the saving message of Jesus Christ to all people. Each Christian is responsible for this most important task. A few of us are charged with actually going to the nations, but the rest of us are charged with supporting these missionaries. We support them primarily by prayer, but also monetarily. One of the most effective ways for us to support the spread of the gospel to those who have not heard is through the International Missions Board. The International Missions Board receives approximately half of it’s funding through the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. Each year at Christmas time, we hold a special Ingathering Offering for the IMB. This year, the offering will take place during the morning service of December 4th. Our goal this year is $1500.
The Salvation Army’s Red Kettles and ringing bells have become, for many, a symbol of Christmas. Each year, millions of Americans donate spare change into these Kettles, and that money is used to provide food, clothing, and gifts for local underprivileged families. OBC tries to help put in a small way by staffing one of these bell-ringing locations. Our location is the Lowe’s Foods of University Drive.
Christmas is a time for singing, but not just any singing–singing to our Savior who’s birth is worth singing about. Each year, we hold a special Christmas morning service centered around proclaiming the Joy that came into the world in the form of a baby. This service is followed by a special Christmas lunch in the Fellowship Hall. It’s just not Christmas without singing about Christ.
