Purpose. Everyone wants it, but few seem to have it.
At OBC, we believe that every human was created to have deep, significant purpose. Furthermore, we believe that this purpose can only be realized by connecting with the God who created us with that purpose (1 Cor. 10:26, 31; Col. 3:17; Rom. 14:8). So, how do we do that? We read the instruction manual.
We believe in preaching, teaching, and studying the Bible. A lot of churches say that, but do they mean it? Do the sermons preach the message of the text, or do they use a Bible verse as a launching off point for the pastor’s opinions? Is the goal of the sermon to help the listener know and trust God more through exposing God’s message to us through his written Word? We believe the pastor’s job on Sunday morning is to make God’s Word understandable, relevant, and meaningful to our lives today-if he hasn’t done that, he’s not done his job.
In his Word, God speaks to us of purpose. He tells us what it is, how to find it, and how to fulfill it. If you think that the Bible is an irrelevant book about irrelevant people, we invite you to experience the excitement of God’s living Word.
